3D Processing method
3D Thermoforming
Thermoplastic 3D foils are high-quality surface materials for use on membrane and membrane-free presses for the three-dimensional coating of wood-based materials (e.g. MDF) for the production of individual elements or entire door fronts. These surface materials can be processed on all commercially available 3D presses by applying temperature, pressing pressure and vacuum as well as using a PUR adhesive for bonding to the wood-based material substrate.
The process is suitable for processing the following products:

3D technology really comes into its own in the manufacture of designer doors. The thermolaminates adapt to every routing and the thermoplastic properties ensure ideal moulding of panels. The process allows the production of panelled doors using suitable products. The thermoplastic plain or decorative surfaces from RENOLIT give the door leaf and frame an attractive design with high practical value.
The manufacturing process
Preparation
The press is opened and the membrane is drawn through a vacuum onto the upper heating plate for heating. The table and the workpieces are covered by the film.

Preheating
The press closes and hot compressed air separates the membrane from the heating plate. The film, which is stretched between the positioning frame and the upper spacer frame, is pulled against the membrane by a vacuum. It continues to be heated by hot air from the upper chamber.

Pressing process
A vacuum is generated in the lower chamber and simultaneously an overpressure in the upper chamber. The membrane presses the film material onto the surface of the workpiece and the heat conducted directly through the membrane activates the adhesive.

Cooling down process
After the pressing process, the membrane is separated from the film by cold air and drawn back onto the upper plate by vacuum, where it is reheated. The press opens and the finished coated workpiece comes out.

3D production of door leaf, door frame and door edge
Door leaf:
Round edges, 3D doors or relief doors - RENOLIT 3D Thermolaminates and RENOLIT 3D PET Laminates guarantee problem-free processing.

Door frame:
RENOLIT 3D foils can be easily wrapped for coating frames with round edges.

Door edge:
Depending on the door design, a rebate edge may also be required. We are happy to support our customers to ensure optimum processing conditions for their materials.
